Dealing with Cluttering a Dyslexic Disorder

Cluttering is classified as a dyslexia disorder. It is a speech and language difficulty different form stuttering and stammering. Find how to deal with it.

Speech is silver and silence is golden. Though this proverb is very popular, speech has importance in everybody's life. It is the happiest moment in the life of parents when they hear the first word uttered by their child. However parents go through a lot when the child has to face the difficulties like stammering, stuttering or cluttering problems. All these problems are associated with the difficulty of speech. Each problem is different from the other.
It is easier to cope with such difficulty of speech if there is better understanding of it. The common trait of the disorders stammering, stuttering and cluttering is difficulty to speak. Due to this similarity people are unable to distinguish between them. Amongst such disorders cluttering is regarded as a kind of dyslexia disorder, which is a language difficulty. Read on and know more about what is cluttering, its causes, symptoms and treatments.

What is cluttering of speech?

Cluttering is also known as tachyphemia. The speech of the child facing cluttering is literally jumbled. Cluttering has one or two characteristic of stuttering. However it is a different form stuttering. The features like dissimilar words and wrong phrasing can be observed in the child facing this disorder. It involves repetition of expression of words and syllables. It does not actually make the person aware about communication difficulties.
The common trait amongst children facing cluttering is that they try to speak faster. Cluttering may also affect writing skills, thinking etc. In case of stuttering a person finds difficult to convert his or her feelings and views in words. Cluttering is exactly opposite to the situation in case of stuttering. The person affected by cluttering is unable to express his or her feelings and views. The fast mode of speech distorts the entire process.

Causes of cluttering

Cluttering is caused due to lack of concentration while talking. It can be caused as a side-effect of medications and drugs. Alcohol can also cause cluttering disorder. Habit of speaking quickly and rapidly can be one of the major causes of cluttering. The actual cause of this disorder is not known, researcher are still struggling to find it. Nevertheless, few known causes are helpful for diagnosis and treatment of the cluttering disorder.

Symptoms of cluttering

Have a quick look at the symptoms which are observed in children facing cluttering of speech. Although the following symptoms may be hard to identify the problem of cluttering, they must not be ignored.
  • Disability to communicate using normal flow of word
  • Poor concentration
  • Use of unrelated sentences and words while speaking
  • Difficulty to speak long sentences
  • Poor listeners

How to avoid cluttering of speech

Exercise
Oral exercises like repeating a particular letter several times can help cope with the disorder. Other methods like 'om chants' can also prove to be helpful. The affected person should try practicing 'om chants' regularly for better recovery.
The person should reduce the habit of talking very speedily. It is very essential to do some mental exercises. The person needs to think what he or she wants to express before speaking. To be a good and fluent speaker it is essential to become a good listener first.
Taking help of a picture chart is also a helpful exercise to cope with cluttering. This exercise also help children to visualise at the beginning what they have to say. This exercise makes the process of communication easier.
Meditation
Regular sessions of meditation help increase concentration. Increased concentration is essential for focusing attention while speaking. Meditation increases patience, to listen and to talk slowly. It helps to control the entire body and develop the intellect. It helps to reduce clutter and gives peace to soul.
Try to find the root cause of your child's disability. Cluttering, stuttering and stammering all of these disorders are a piece of cake if dealt accordingly. However there are lots of parents who do not know what is cluttering, most of them consider it as stuttering. Try to understand the difference between both and help your child to cope with it. Take an expert's help to identify the kind of disorder. This will make the treatment procedure for the child easier
